Laser Cut Shawl – Felt

Felt offers many qualities to garments with its rigidity, texture, and color. One thing it does not perform well at is stretch. By systematically introducing a slit pattern into the felt, the piece is now able to stretch in predictable ways. These laser cut slits give the felt a new life as it can twist, stretch, and fold and even be used as an insertion point for fasteners. This technique of introducing a series of slits could be introduced to other homogenous materials such as metals and leather which could potentially provide more opportunities for building skins.
